Short Guide to Chichen Itza | Yucatan Peninsula

Chichen Itza is considered one of the new seven wonders of the world, so of course Joseph and I needed to visit it while in the Yucatan Peninsula. We had a rent-a-car so we drove from Tulum, Quintana Roo which was about a two hour drive.

A couple of recommendations:

  • Give yourself plenty of time! There is so much to see at Chichen Itza so expect a lot of walking! Don't just visit the Pyramid and call it a day... You can see the Great Ballcourt where the Mayan Sportsman use to play, Temple of the Warriors, The Group of the Thousand Columns... It's all so historical and there is a lot to soak in!

  • We arrived around noon time, and it was really hot! There isn't much shade so a couple of things that I suggest you bring are a hat, sunscreen, and water!

  • There are two cenotes on site at Chichen Itza, and the one thing I do not recommend you bringing is a swimsuit. It's not exactly swimmable, so do not expect to bathe in the cenotes here!
