Iron Mountain Trail | Hike San Diego, CA

On my day off from work, Joseph and I hiked Iron Mountain in Poway, CA. It is one of San Diego's most popular hikes. This is a moderately challenging 5.2 mile hike with little to no shade. The view at the top offers 360 degree views of San Diego, but when we got to the top, we did not stay long because there were so many little flies! They were so annoying, so our stay at the top was very short lived!

Recommendations

  • Bring a lot of water! This hike is 5.2 miles, so it is medium in length so stay hydrated!

  • Wear sunscreen and a hat! There is little to no shade on this hike!

  • Get there early to beat the heat! We started the hike around 9:50am, and didn't get done til 12:30pm. It was so hot! Avoid it if you can!

Other Information

  • There is a private lot for parking. And also street parking if necessary.

  • There are two restrooms available. When I went, I brought my own toilet paper just in case, but was surprised to find the restroom fully stocked with toilet paper.
